Responsibilities Perform machining work in support of repairs and modifies parts and assemblies for plant, vehicular and engineering equipment. Determine work methods and techniques to be used in the machining of parts, fixtures and assemblies. Plan sequences machine operations involving innovations in setups, attachments, techniques, and cooling in the machining of unusual surface configurations.
Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires successful completion of pre-placement and annual medical examinations. The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
Qualifications This position is a TERM position,Not-To-Exceed one (1) year and one (1) day.
Position is temporary and may be extended up to a maximum of eight (8) years.
This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Machinist~ without more than normal supervision. Performing common tasks in relation to performing fabrication, modification, and repair of industrial, and plant equipment, such as engine and transmission test cells, dynameters, bag houses, paint booths, dust collectors, spinner hangers, various types of sand blasting equipment; performing plant maintenance to repair, fabricate, and modify production equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen Out Physical Effort: Incumbent must work in standing, stooping, bending and reaching positions. Frequently handles items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally is required to lift items in excess of 45 pounds; however hoists, lifts and other 'Workers are available to assist with heavier items. Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable odors, smoke and fumes and also there is danger to skin and eyes from flying metal chips, abrasive particles, and hot metal; skin irritation from contact: with coolants, lubricants and abrasive compounds; and danger to the fingers, hands and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces and moving parts of machines.
