Responsible for drafting a broad range of contracts. Performs preliminary investigation on reported Potential Compensable Events. Represents hospital in various legal proceedings. Keeps abreast of laws and regulations affecting the RM, insurance and patient safety programs. Works with Patient Safety and PerformanceI on the RCA process. Responds to legal, regulatory, and policy questions. Evaluates correspondence from patients, attorneys, and other outside sources and writes, edits, and finalizes reports, opinions, correspondence, articles, and other documents as necessary. Advises administration and other Children’s staff about risk reduction strategies and prepares memoranda on issues involved. Works with Defense Counsel and/or Third Party Administrator.Coordinates the organization’s response to discovery requests and interrogatories. Receives complaints, claims, potentially compensable events and lawsuits. Maintains a diary system to review periodically all claim files. Manages, reviews, maintains and updates ACCESS databases for Litigation and Open Claims, and Risk Management Concerns. Assists in processing summons and complaints served on present and previous employees; assists defendants in completing necessary documents. Evaluates correspondence from attorneys, patients, and other outside sources, and formulates responses, as necessary. Maintains all legal case files and ensures maximum protection from discoverability of all such files.
