The Enterprise Solutions Architect is accountable for proactively leading or supporting Enterprise Architecture activities for creating deliverables that guide the developing direction for managing a portfolio of solutions and driving achieving targeted business outcomes. Solutions include systems (including applications, technologies, processes and information), shared infrastructure services and shared application services. A background and indepth knowledge of IT Infrastructure is preferred.

Solutions Architects provide the necessary leadership, analysis and design tasks related to the development of an enterprise's solutions architecture. This individual creates deliverables that help develop a direction for managing the organization's portfolio of"to be" and"as is" solutions including systems (meaning not just applications, but also processes and information), shared infrastructure services, and shared application services and components to better match targeted business outcome objectives.

Solutions Architects leverage and use technology solutions to enable the organization's future-state business capabilities that, in turn, drive the organization's targeted outcomes. They facilitate and orchestrate the delivery of targeted business outcomes.

Primary Job Functions:

IT Solution Analysis
  • Understand business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state), and determine corresponding enterprise system impacts and change requirements to drive the organization's targeted business outcomes.
  • Manage and lead the development of the architecture for a broader scope of projects, working closely with application architects that manage and design architecture for a single project or initiative
  • Consult with application and infrastructure development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to architecture, and identify when it is necessary to modify projects to accommodate the solutions architecture
  • Participate in the identification of the impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures or culture) of the solutions
  • Document solution architecture design and analysis work
  • Participate in planning, definition, and high-level design of the solution and explore solution alternatives
  • Define subsystems and their interfaces, allocate responsibilities to subsystems, understand solution deployment, and communicate requirements for interactions with solution context
Solution Planning and Delivery
  • Lead the implementation of a solutions architecture across a group of specific business applications or technologies based on enterprise business strategy, business capabilities and business requirements
  • Work closely with the program management office (PMO) or project management office to ensure the execution of plans corresponds with what is being promised
  • Enable the business to meet objectives through IT delivery using appropriate design guidelines and investment advocacy
  • Participate in Program and Project Planning activities, discovery and solutions demonstrations based on teams s software development framework. This could include activities such as Program Increment (PI) Planning and Pre- and Post-PI Planning, System and Solution Demos, sprint zero planning, architecture design sessions, requirements gathering, JAD sessions, dependency mapping meetings etc.)
  • Define, explore, and support the implementation solutions working directly with system teams to implement
Acquisition
  • Leading and organizing the discovery and integration planning efforts across system and business teams. This includes establishing the sub-workstreams, supporting sub-workstream detailed analysis, develop integration strategy, determine staffing strategy, define program schedule and milestones
  • Supporting the software team s software development work including helping to finalize scope, solution definition, dependency management, leading system to system integration testing
  • Leading IT implementation activities. This includes cross team and cross company communications, working with teams to identify implementation tasks, defining implementation process and procedures (i.e. playbook), execute cutover, resolve cutover issues, validate and sign-off on cutover
  • Defining and the Post Implementation activities. Prior to moving to maintenance model, establish post-implementation heightened support model required to ensure production continuity and successful transition to normal production processing
  • Facilitating communication and collaboration across the acquisition program at various levels such as leadership, stakeholder, across company, system and business teams
  • Improving and developing standards and repeatable processes to scale activities for current and upcoming acquisitions to for the company to complete work more efficiently
IT Standards
  • Understand technology trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business and operating models
  • Understand, advocate and augment the principles of information technology strategies
  • Define the principles, guidelines, standards and solution patterns to ensure solution decisions are aligned with the enterprise's future-state architecture vision
  • Facilitate the evaluation and selection of software product standards and services, as well as the design of standard and custom software configurations
  • Design and direct the governance activities associated with ensuring solutions architecture assurance and compliance
  • Provide consulting support to application architects within projects to ensure the project is aligned with the overall enterprise architecture
  • Support technology/engineering aspects of Program and Solution Kanbans or other IT work and workflow tools
  • Provide oversight and foster Built-In Quality to ensure eams who create high-quality, well designed technical solutions
IT Vision and Influence
  • Lead the effort to change and evolving the process of solution architecture so that it delivers value and developing the core architect team to improve required skills.
  • Leading the effort to develop, maintain, govern and evolve the Enterprise Architecture program across the enterprise.
  • Defining the solution architect process and leading the effective integration of these processes with other related architectural, business and IT processes.
  • Leading and facilitating the creation of governing principles to guide solution decision making for the enterprise
  • Overseeing Solution Architect ongoing refinement activities
  • Assessing and communicating the successes and business value of EA to key stakeholders
  • Identifying organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support enterprise architecture roles
Work Experience, Education, Certification/Training Required
  • Typically, 6+ years of applicable work and/or technical experience
  • Typically, post-secondary degree, preferably in Management Information Services, Computer Science or Math related field will substitute for 4 years of work and/or technical experience
  • Certifications in industry-related or discipline-related organizations are desirable and may substitute for some work and/or technical experience. (Organization could include LOMA, TOGAF, PMI, IIBA, ITIL, Six Sigma etc.)
    • TOGAF certification preferred
    • Has working knowledge and experience in own discipline
    • System consolidation or Acquisition experience preferred
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Most complex analytical skills and problem solving skills; competent to work in all system analysis phases and to consider most complex business implications of applying technology to the current and future business environment
  • Demonstrates a most complex working knowledge of systems and software development concepts, practices and procedures; willingness to continually build knowledge of the organization, processes and customers
  • Ability to work effectively under very tight deadline pressure
  • Proficiency in pertinent tools and software necessary for the position
  • Ability to plan, schedule and execute multiple concurrent activities
  • Clear use of the English language in written and oral communications and the ability to interpret and communicate technical information to non-technical personnel and vice versa
  • Most complex presentation and negotiation skills and the ability to lead meetings professionally and effectively
  • Ability to act with diplomacy in resolving conflict, consulting and in acting as an agent in charge
  • Must be self- motivated, able to work independently and willing to self-teach and take responsibility for ongoing professional development
  • Self-motivated with the ability to make solid technical decisions with minimal managerial direction
